About

About Garden Center Blogging
Garden center owners and employees have jobs already, and rarely have the time, inclination, or experience needed to tackle social marketing themselves.  But with the help of experienced gardenbloggers and social networkers, garden center blogs can:

  • Be a local source of high-quality gardening information for the community (your current and future customers)
  • Increase visibility of your business in local media
  • Start communications with your customers
  • Create a local community of connected gardeners
  • Separate you from big-box stores by putting a personal face on your business, and establishing your authority for reliable gardening information

About Susan Harris, the Blogger behind Garden Center Blogger

Susan’s a long-time fan of independent garden centers and has guest-posted for Garden Center Magazine’s blog.   She co-writes and edits blogs for Mahoney’s Garden Center (Boston) and Behnkes Nurseries (Maryland), and is the gardenblogger for Homestead Gardens (Maryland).

Susan is a co-founder of the popular team blog GardenRant, which launched in 2006 and has since built high traffic and earned great press.  All four GardenRant writers spoke at the 2010 IGC Show in Chicago.

On her individual award-winning blog, Sustainable and Urban Gardening, Susan encourages people to garden and offers online coaching for new and experienced gardeners.  On her website you’ll find her longer articles about plants and gardening, combined with contributions from 22 respected gardening experts.  Her mission is to compile objective, evidence-based and practical help for the homeowner.

Susan has networked both online and in person to create successful organizations and campaigns, including the Lawn Reform Coalition, DC Urban Gardeners, and Green the Grounds.

Susan has also taught gardening one-on-one since 2005, a service she calls garden coaching.

Here’s Susan’s semi-official resume.
