FAQs

Here are questions frequently asked of Garden Center Blogger but if your question isn’t covered here, don’t hesitate to contact Susan for more information.

What is a blog?

A blog is a frequently updated, online “log” of news, happenings, photos, videos, and information.  The best blogs are narrowly focused around a theme or subject.  For garden centers the focus is garden-related news and information.

Why do I need a blog?

A blog is a great way to share timely updates and information with your customers.  Blogs create community, and keep your business front and center in the minds of your customers.  A blog with regular and frequent posts entices customers to check in with you online every day for new pictures, events, sales, and interesting information.

Is blogging difficult?

The act of blogging is not, in and of itself, difficult.  It is time-consuming.  Many companies start a blog with the best of intentions, only to abandon it a few weeks later.  Hiring experienced bloggers and blog managers can ensure that your blog is successful.

How will a blog make me money?

A blog does not make money directly.  A blog is an easy way to provide up-to-date information to your customers and build community.  A blog encourages interaction with your customers.  Blogs are easy to update and can be maintained by several people at once without fear of technical glitches on the main company site.  Blogs are informal, and can easily be filled with eye-popping photos.

Blogs are great for search engine optimization, which helps your website rank higher in search engine listings, resulting in more customer traffic.

Blogs are also great resources for local media, to help the media learn to turn to your company for gardening information when they need it.

What is  “social media” and how does it relate to my company?

Social media involves networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube.  Blogs are also considered part of the “social media.”

Increasingly, consumers use online sources – entirely – to find things to do, items to purchase, reviews of products, information, and recommendations.  For businesses to survive and thrive, they must meet their customers where they are.  That is, increasingly, online.

Why should I hire you?

Simply put: to make blogging and social media easy for you, and successful.  Every garden center, especially every local, independent garden center, has to engage in online marketing in order to grow their customer base, and reach younger markets.  This takes time, technical knowledge, and experience engaging the blogging and online community.

Susan Harris has been winning traffic and awards as a gardenblogger since 2005 and will put that experience and her passion for gardening to work for you.

Can you maintain my blog indefinitely?

Definitely.  Please see the fees and services page for more information.

I’m a Writer, How Can I Get Involved?

One of the most exciting parts of the Garden Center Blogger service is working to connect independent garden centers with their local and regional garden bloggers and writers.   And writers can help make that happen by spreading the word about these services.  Remember, the more clients Garden Center Blogger serves, the more writing opportunities will be opened up for regional garden bloggers.
